“An Intercessor for the Lost”

“AN INTERCESSOR FOR THE LOST”

An intercessor for the lost

This is my great desire;
I long to daily intercede
For those in straits so dire.

Refrain:
Let me pray, let me pray for lost sheep gone astray,
Let me pray for this world dead in sin;
Let me preach God’s Word till the whole world’s heard
And many have thence been born again.

An intercessor for the lost
Who soon may fall in Hell —
This is the yearning of my heart
Which doth to prayer compel.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost
All hunkered down in sin —
Oh, Lord, please hear me as I pray
That we their souls might win.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost
Is what I now would be;
I want to pour my soul all out
That they might be set free.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost —
That’s what You’ve call me to;
And so I’ll faithf’lly intercede
And thus their souls pursue.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost —
Till now I’ve often failed;
I’ve bent my knee so seldom that
My prayers have not prevailed.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost
With eyes oft’ filled with tears —
This is the burden of my soul
Right now and through the years.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost —
For this I’ll need Thy grace;
I’ll need a vision that shall move
My eyes to wet my face.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost
Now damned forevermore —
Oh, God, give zeal to intercede
Like I’ve not prayed before.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost —
What happy sacrifice!
To give my life that some might live
Is such a petty price.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost —
Dear God, please hear me now;
I’ll pray, and cry, and intercede:
This is my heartfelt vow.

Refrain

An intercessor for the lost —
I now must do my part;
I’ll intercede until I die
And pray with all my heart!

Refrain:
Let me pray, let me pray for lost sheep gone astray,
Let me pray for this world dead in sin;
Let me preach God’s Word till the whole world’s heard
And many have thence been born again.
